Alright, so I got a frag with both a green and red monti cap on it in a trade about 2 days ago. This along with some acros and milleporas are my first SPS. They were all showing good polyp extension, I have great water quality with 150w halides and good flow. The cap is about 8 or 9 inches from the halide. Today I came home and looked at the green monti cap, and I can see the green peeling off. Before I put it in, I saw what looked like eggs on it so I got a toothbrush and scrubbed them off. That was probably not the best idea but I didn't know what to do and I didn't want any nudibranches. So is this RTN? And will it spread to my other SPS?

I'd say check your alk and calcium first. make sure those are good. I'd probably also move it a little lower from the light if possible.

i usually start my sps high but on a frag rack out of the way from my light so they can get acclimated to the lighting for at least 2 weeks , if not more before putting them mid way in the tank. worked wonders for me so far. before that i lost 3

Well I have a packed 29 gallon biocube so that slipped my mind. I should have put it lower. If this is the reason, will my other corals RTN too? The others came from brighter light.

any pictures? what other sps do you have in the tank? and some parameters will give people a better look into your tank. i have a 29 gallon hqi too , but i had no luck with sps in it at all. i just kept a fish only. think i need a way better skimmer as mine came with the piece of poop special ,lol. as for your other corals , i can't say. did you add them all at the same time? more info would help

Alright so it's been up and running about 5 months. Cycled the first two weeks. Successfully had LPS and softies with no problems. Had a bit of a nitrate problem for a while because of the stock bioballs and sponge but removed them and all is fine. I feed very heavily, no skimmer or fuge yet, just 5 gallon water changes weekly (29 gallon Biocube). Started moving out my leathers so I could keep SPS and when selling my yellow toadstool, somebody said they would trade me SPS for it. I ran off with some montipora digitas, caps, and a couple acros. A friend gave me a deal on some milleporas also. They were all added within a couple of days. My parameters:

Calcium: 460
Alkalinity: 10
Salinity: 1.025
Nitrates: 10
Magnesium: 1300
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0

Temperature: 77

Running a 150w sunpod with 14k current bulb. 2 clownfish, 1 yasha goby, 1 firefish, and 1 mandarin.

I would think that the problem is related to the possible "eggs" and the toothbrushing you did to it vs. any of your tank parameters.
There really isn't anything that you can do at this point, and I wouldn't really worry about it that much since in most of the local clubs we sell pretty big frags for $5-$10. So replacement shouldn't be a big deal.
Or like Makoy did - free :)

I would have just chucked the frag with any signs of eggs on it. 99% of the time you won't get them all.

So I don't need to worry about it affecting my other SPS? I agree it's likely to do with the eggs.
