Monti Eating Nudis…

Anyone know a way to get rid of these guys? They’re on my Digitata so far, I have 3 Pink Streaked Wrasses which seem to pick off the young specimens.
I have Iodine Dip (all of the montis are frags) but I can’t setup a QT tank for my Montis.
Anyone got any ideas for what I could do?

Dang of all the pests. I have heard scraping is the best - ish option for removal. Dips dont usually do anything for the eggies. I would assume (i know assume) that a 6 line may do some work. Again - had customers at lfs have success that way but no personal experience.

It's my understanding these guys can be very tough to get rid of. Have you found the eggs? They will be grouped together in small clusters. Other than dipping to kill the nudis, you would need to scrape off the eggs too.

I found some in my frag tank recently and ended up just tossing all the montis in there. Wasn't much of a loss $$$ wise. Might not be the same situation for you.

Unfortunately it’s a 3’x16”x1’ tank so it’s not easy to control pests in.

I had these years ago and lost the battle. A few issues to consider:

1. There is probably no in-tank treatment that will be effective.
2. The eggs are difficult to spot and remove.
3. Montiporas tend to encrust, and any encrusted coral that remains in the tank, undipped, can be a refuge for nudibranchs.
4. They are tough, and repeated use of some dips will cause additional stress on coral.

If I were in your position I would make sure all the Montiporas are on frag plugs or easily removed, and no Montipora is encrusted, so that everything can be dipped. Dip them all with KCl dissolved in tank water, I used 4g/L for AEFW for 10 min, toothbrush dead tissue and plugs, rinse with tank water. More may be needed for nudibranchs. Dip once a week for at least 6 weeks.

This is speculation, like I said I haven't beaten them, but I think it's your best shot. KCl dip is quite gentle on coral, and it is reported to be effective against Montipora eating nudis.

How long ago did you take that pic? If they are still there id take the frag out if you can and suck up in a bowl of tank water w/ a turkey baster. Then hunt around under the frag for potential eggs. Brush em of w/ toothbrush.

Not too long ago (I believe just under 50 minutes ago). I can try to see if they’re still there.

Sry to read. Agree with @Ghost25 on the KCL dip. 2tblspoon per gallon tank water. 10min also brush the eggs.
