I am getting my first monti this week and my question is about growth direction related to flow direction. I have a 55 gal red sea reefer with a xf230 gyre directing water from right to left. The place I want to put the monti has a lot of open room to the right. SO my question is, will they grow into the flow or will they tend to grow with the flow (Hope that make sense!!)

Thanks-

I believe those are very similar to capricornis in the way that they grow. Mine radiates from the edge of the coral and doesn't necessarily go in any specific direction. I got mine as a pizza slice shaped frag and it just grows outwards from the original edge, making it a bigger pizza slice shape now. The edges where it broke off have healed and rounded over. I expect them to start growing outwards too in a perpendicular direction from the edge of the frag.

That's a really good question.I am going to guess through observation that they grow towards the flow and towards the light. They seem to want it all.

Mine encrust towards the light.. as for flow, it doesn't seem to have any particular preference.
