Hello guys,

I am new to SPS corals and decided to try some montipora to begin with. All but one of the pieces seem to be doing fine. The one however seems to be receding colour. I am worried for him. I have lights set lower than usual to help acclimatise them in. Is there anything I am missing/could do?

Many thanks!

What are your parameters? What is your flow in the tank? How low are you keeping the lights?

Hey, parameters are stable(ish), nitrates are at 10, PH 8.2, Ca 800ppm, Mg1600ppm, KH12dKH and salinity 1.026. The lights at 50% of full capacity (reduced specifically to help acclimatise these in).

I keep my parameters much lower, Alk at 8.3, Cal at 440, and Mag at 1440, and PH at 8.2-8.4, so I am not much help at those levels. My N03 is around 15 ppm and my P04 is around .08 ppm.

Thanks, I won’t be dosing anymore until they do go low. Strange since the others are doing fine. Hopefully no pests!

Agreed its probably best to lower them a bit as I dont really know anyone running them that high. I would check your salt mix as well just to see where the base levels are for the tank and best of luck with it, sometimes corals just randomly die in this hobby

That's the funny thing, I can keep SPS no problem, but I have had montis go POOF for no reason. ;Facepalm

Thanks, hopefully. Yeah sad but true!

Also, what is the flow turnover in the tank? SPS like a high turnover, meaning 40x plus.

That I am not too sure about that without doing some maths and checking wavemaker output, but both are set on moderate random wave control in 1000l tank size...
