I set up a new tank a couple months ago with a fluval sea 3.0 light. I don’t have a par meter but I’ve had a monti frag in there for a while and have not noticed any growth. In my other tank with AI hydra lights I’ve been able to notice growth over the same time period.

Attached are my light settings and a picture of the monti. It is about 8” below the light.
Does it need more light? I could move it up to where it would be about 6” below the light.

More light will do no harm. Could just be the coral being a bit stubborn too... Had a monti not growing for 3 months and then started growing and doubled its size in 2 months.

Sometimes the best thing to do is do nothing :)

I really don’t want to add more light, my lionfish is more active in lower lighting and the tank is near my tv anyway. I guess I’ll just be patient, the tank is still new

I’m assuming that is a monti cap. Those grow extremely fast for me even when I didn’t have the highest lighting schedule. Do you have any other lps or sps and if so how are they doing. Are your params stable. Sometimes I have a coral for a few months then it of nowhere it starts growing. I have also found that if my sps has none grown since I got it months back, doing a small frag off the branch helps get it going

Yes it’s a monti cap, the only other corals are gsp, discos/ricordia, toadstool leather, zoas/palys and trumpet coral. They’re all growing great, the trumpet has doubled the amount of polyps in the last month. Water has been stable but I’m working on getting calcium up, it’s been holding at about 380-400 since setting the tank up.

I wouldn’t worry about the calcium too much. Are you running carbon? With many soft corals the toxins from them might be stunting the growth

No carbon, or any chemical filtration. I didn’t think about that, good call. Maybe I’ll throw a reactor in the sump.
