hello an earlier thread has me thinking of a montipora and acropora together . Example can a grown out acropora colony have a encrusting montipora encrusted around its base . A earlier thread our fellow member posted that sunset montipora was killing things , so it’s out . How about rainbow montipora, or Superman montipora ect has anyone had success with this?

In my experience the monti will eventually kill and cover the Acro.....here is a pic of one of mine that I let go, which killed and completely covered the acro lol.

I agree with above.

Although not an acro, I have a stylo that is right near my red monti cap. The monti outgrows the stylo. While the stylo stings the monti(the ends that touch the stylo are dead), the monti continues to grow around it and strangle out new growth. I have to "frag" the monti to save the stylo almost weekly.

Thx for replies and the cool pics . How about encrusting montipora vs mushrooms. Or other corals ? I would think aggressive ones like frogspawn would win . No I’m not fighting corals like dogs , but thinking of rescapeing.

Montis and acropora have similar water, light and flow requirements which is basically all you have to cover. pruning (fragging) coral is just a fact of life for any branching or plating sps, and any other coral to be honest, that are working their way to a neighbouring coral.
