Montipora Bubble Gum bleaching?

I asked the guy who gave me the frag he said "no just let it be there, you can have more if it doesnt make it" but I feel bad for that monti when I dont try everything.

I agree with your friend's advice. let it be. Digis are super hardy and adaptable. I bet it will be just fine after a little adjustment period.

No. i mean i do clearly see polyp retraction and it is getting more white.

Can the LED be too much for it?

Salinity 1.024
Kh 8
Ca 425
Mg 1315
Po4 0.07
no3 10
Temp 25 degrees celsius

All other sps are doing perfectly…
But I also had a monti plate turning completely light pink and then died…
I had a similar issue with my monti cap. My guess is too much light, not enough acclimation time.

But the digi was under much more PAR before, thats the crazy story.

This is the mother colony

Well, my friend told me he runs 800 PAR on the very top.
My AI Prime HD is maybe @ 250 PAR on the top. Id say 200 PAR where my Digi is sitting at the most.
Acro, Pocillo are at the same level and thriving.

I first thought its the light.. but Ive read there cannot be too much light for Montis so far and I only have an AI Prime HD.

BUT one of the first corals I had was a red monti plate and this one also bleached and died..
but this one came from a very lowish PAR tank and Im sure ive burnt this plate.

But that shouldnt be the case to that monti..

Or would you just try it and put it in the lower part of the tank?

This is a 100% aquacultured coral that is literally thrown away by people once it's growing out of control. It's not sentient and it has zero negative environmental impact. If it dies there are more. I agree that at this point you shouldn't do anything. It will either acclimate and thrive, or not.

If it dies and you get more frags from your friend, you can break them up and place in different locations in your tank to see if it does well. Feel no guilt here.

I recognize that Montipora can take extremely high light but I have personally had this specific strain grow away from the light in my tank when I really blasted it with light. I got a second frag and I keep it at about half as much light and it's happy.

Keep your alkalinity stable and don't zero out your nutrients.

I do think there is a chance of this one bouncing back. Just give it a month and see.

Thanks for that!
Yes, of course I can get more.. But its my favorite coral and I always wanted to have one in my tank.. So it feels so bad and sad seeing it struggle.

Well, I would love to try it under lower light. But I might just leave it there and when it dies I go and get another and will put it under lower light then.

You will have a healthy thriving one in your tank some day soon!

Sometimes switching tanks is hard on corals and a do-over is required. If this were a specimen from the wild, I would encourage you to do everything under the sun to try and get some tiny frag of what you have to grow so that it becomes a colony. But this is a renewable resource. You are not being cruel.

For what it's worth, the one I mentioned above that was growing away from the light did rebound in terms of growth, but never colored back up. Then a tank crash happened and I thought I lost it. I got a new frag which, after a few weeks of adjusting, looks great and is now almost what I would call a colony. BUT-- little did I know that 2-3 polyps of the original actually survived. When I saw them, I mounted them next to the thriving chunk. Now there are several dozen polyps and it's half of the size of a dime. I'm confident that even the tiny scrap will grow into a colony.

Hang in there.

You guys think that is now normal again?

Not to say there is zero cause for concern but when I had my alk whoopsie mine looked FAR worse than that. The only color it had was light pink polyps the little time they were extended the rest was completely white and it made a complete recovery

Again, these need fast movement BUT. . . you dont want to blast them. I still say light and nutrients followed by alk issue. Montipora corals can’t directly use sunlight for energy. Instead, they have formed a symbiotic relationship with dinoflagellates that live within their tissues. These dinoflagellates create energy for the coral with photosynthesis. The coral ingests byproducts of that photosynthetic process to get its energy for growth.
For new frags of Monti, be gentle with lighting at first. New corals can be killed by too intense light. As the coral grows, gradually increase the lighting. Many hobbyists alter the strength and frequency of light to change the color of the coral. If your coral is dull in color, the problem could be as simple as it is not getting enough light.
White tips signify either Growth or bleaching. Your pics suggest growth.
Personally, I believe total issue is something wrong with your water or lighting. . . . Either improper levels of calcium and magnesium in the tank or you need more light than the 250 PAR to at least 400 PAR.
STABLE light or flow is more important than amounts of both in many cases

Looks fine to me. My BG digi has been darn near bulletproof since I got it. All my digis seem to be very hardy.

I replaced it and did glow it a bit deeper in the tank. Think it recovers!
