Hello,

My red beautiful montipora is dying from below, yet the polyps are fully open. All other corals are ok, the water parameters are typical stable, no any recent changes. No pests observed.. Any ideas?

How long have you had it? Was the colony grown from a frag and now it's dying from below?

Or did you buy colony and the bottom is dying off from shading?

It looks like the dying portion is shaded. Perhaps it needs more light from a different angle.

Monti eating nudis got me last year could never see them either until I lost everything

Mine does that about once a year before I starts to take off on vertical growth. I never really understood it. Sometimes you can even break a chunk off around the dying area to speed up the process.

Very interesting.

Thank you all for your inputs. I carefully searched for nudis with no result, yet will try to do some dipping procedures if this spreads

As mentioned before, my experience with them is that there will suddenly be a dieback of a few sections of it then it stops. No Nudi's, good water parameters etc. Always was the red/orange versions.
