I have a green montipora and a sunset montipora I recently bought which are both encrusting I believe. I placed them mid tank on some rock that has quarter size holes. My question is will they be able to grow past these absences of rock? I haven’t grown sps previously so I apologize for this rather elementary question. Here’s a awful pic.
Polpys bit disturbed since I just placed the corals there. Thanks reefers!

In my opinion it would depend on the lighting. Under halides, yes. T5's probably. LEDs..ehhh maybe depends how good of coverage/spread. If they don't just fill putty in those spots.

They will be able to grow around the voids and holes. The leading growth edge will encrust into the hole first. Then, it will grow around the edge and eventually form a solid mass.

That's if all conditions are perfect. Like lighting, flow and parameters.
Ok that makes a lot of sense. Ty!

Yes. If they don’t die they will bulldozer. You will be perfectly fine.

Yep, they will incrust and grow over holes, other corals...... Once they take off, they take off! Lol

Yes and yes. It’s exciting. The green is encrusting but some of it raised up a bit and the sunset montipora has its polyps extended 24/7 and it’s already reaching for new ground

Fun stuff. Caps and digitata's can grow like weeds. My red cap started out about the size of a quarter back in 16, it's about the size of a dinner plate now!
