I used the "aquarium camera" app and did some slight color readjustments to better recreate what the eye sees that the camera misses. Any ID on this? I bought it today and its my favorite frag ive ever bought

in person it looks like a jedi mind trick frag but with orange polyps. There is significant dark blue as well as light green

I know you really love it now... However, I highly suggest you place it on a rock that isn’t touching other rocks. These things become a real problem once an sps tank starts to grow in, and it will not lose to an Acropora

Im actually shooting for a montipora dominated rockscape, with my brain corals and euphyllia down on the sand bed. Might have 1 or 2 acros b ut they are really not my priority. I think montis come in such cooler varieties than acros.

That's cool. I love Montipora, I just love Acropora more. I've thought about doing a tank with nothing but encrusting corals, and I almost turned my frag tank into that when I was neglecting maintenance.

Just be wary though, encrusting Montis won't lose to many things, once they get going, I've had them out compete duncas, acros other non encrusting montipora. (they won't strand a chance against a euphilia though so your OK there lol)
They grow surprisingly fast once they get established.

I'm in the process of trying to remove one and its a bit of a nightmare.

I see. I dont plan on having anything living on live rock except for encrusting sps. Im looking for a really messy, colorful, abnormally shaped reef environment. Good luck in your efforts, hope you are able to stabilize the rapid growth sufficiently. .

I agree with you there, the only SPS I will keep in my tank will be montis, The only exception I'll make is a CC Black Hornet acro but that's it.

If it did not come with a name and lineage back to the source, then it is not a purebred. Just call it what it looks like. Red Polyp Blue Monti, or something.
