Hi all so I'm wondering what kind of light levels your montiporas like. I have a capricornis that was in relatively low light near the top of my tank that had great polyp extension but was pretty brown. I raised the light and the brown has lessened but polyp extension has gone down! im pretty sure its not my water quality as my acros all still have great polyp extension so im thinking my monti just doesnt like the higher light. its not bleaching or anything but no PE for probably 3 weeks since i upped the lighting. ive actually read some people have this problem but the monti is still growing so i shouldnt worry.

Anyone have similar experiences?

My Mounties are all over high and low. They grow regardless. Color could be many factors and polyp extension I never saw on mine. If your parameters are good then I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think it turned brown, what it could be it is showing different since you moved the light higher. One think I noticed with mine is they love high magnesium

Thanks for the input! It looks like ill just have to deal with it for now haha hopefully it will open its polyps again eventually as i loved looking at em

To play it safe, at night with a flash light check on the underside of your monties and make sure there are no little white nudibranch aggrivating it. I don't think light only would make polyps not extend
