Hi all! New to the hobby was wondering if there was any chance that you could help me figure out what is on this piece! Try to blow it off and it just flakes off but some remain? Thnx

Piece is growing well. Pic is blurry but could it be precipitation from adding salt or supplements? Looks blue in pic but what color is it?

Look like tissue burn from food that landed on it, salt as mentioned or if you're dosing with powdered supplements could be chemical.
Can it recover and heal back over- that's 50/50
Do check also for presence of any bugs such as redbugs, flatworms and nudibranchs checking underneath the coral also

Have you added anything direct to tank such as salt, bicarbonate, kalkwasser- anything ?
Take a close look and see if you can see any pests such as Nudibranch, bugs, flatworms.
Moderate light and water flow should be for these coral and What test kits are you using?

recommended:
Temp 77-79
ph 8.1-8.3
salinity 1.025
nitrate < .10
phos < .04
Ammonia < .03
mG 1300
Alk 8-11
CA 400- 440

Yes all my parameters are within these numbers. I use hanna. Just add brs alk and some red sea traces elm into am mp40 just about 10 inches over them.

" Just add brs alk and some red sea traces elm into am mp40 just about 10 inches over them."
Bingo- Thought so. In the future , add these to the sump before the return pump which will disburse these into the water rather than them hitting the corals
Will the coral recover- Good chance they should or will. Just keep an eye on them and assure not getting any worse

So you think recovery is 50/50?

If is is just a burn from chemicals and otherwise healthy coral then they almost certainly will recover and grow over those spots in time. Do watch for algae to grow in those bare spots as that will irritate the coral and make it harder to encrust back over.

Thank you!

Best chance to grow back over if you keep it clear of detritus or algae! Otherwise if it doesn't you won't notice on a large colony once it grows out anyways.
