So is Montipora the type of corals you see in a shelf like structure in some people's tanks? Trying to get some info so I can research this. I wish I had a picture, but they look like shelves in some cases. Any info??
Google "plating montipora", all the info will pop up. Basically, it is an easier sps coral, requires higher light and flow, and it comes in all colors. They are very nice to have, but can become a nuisance since they can grow very fast and shade everything under it.
I love the look of it. You can get encrusting varieties which just crust over rock or plating which are what you are referring to. Personally I would avoid the encrusting types especially in smaller tanks because they take over very fast unless you keep them isolated from the rest of your rockwork. I had a slow growing tank and figured I'd throw some in the middle of my tank and I regret it now. Something changed and made them happy and they took off. Now they are growing faster than I can contain them.
