Hey guys,

So I have a colony of montipora setosa, thats been growing in my tank since august. For a couple of months now all of the new growth has been irregular and kind of bubbly. I tried fragging it off but it grows back in the same way. As of this week the branches with the bubbles are dissolving and almost "melting" ,when this happens whole entire branches just die off. My parameters are great, and all of my other SPS are showing great pe,great color, and they have been growing pretty fast. Any advice is welcomed I really don't want to loose this colony.
Many thanks

I just did a little more research turns out it's called a ga (growth abnormality) it causes these tumors, lower bone density, slower growth, loss of zozanthellea, and 100 percent mortality :(

Might as well pull it out and cut it up into as many pieces as you can, might keep one alive. Trying this sound better than 100% mortality.

Yea but almost all if the colony is affected, even the new encrusting growth has the tumors. I might just take it out, and ask my friend who has a frag of the same colony to cut me a frag.

So you decided to give your corals skin cancer...

on another note...I had something similar happen to a setosa that was getting constant laminar flow. I shielded it from the direct flow and it bounced back

sure for lack or a better word. then the 'inflated' portion went away and skeleton was left where of course algae took over. After shielding the setosa has encrusted over previously dead portions. I have setosa in about 4 different spots in my tank and it was only the one in direct flow that had issues.
