I’ve had this Montipora for over a year and has been doing great. Haven’t changed the lighting at all. My first thought was bleaching but my lighting hasn’t changed and it has done so well up to this point. Any ideas?

Like Lapin said, have you checked your parameters? something must have swayed my monti does not like crazy swings
I had a decent salinity drop about a week ago due to my auto top off malfunctioning. Just now getting it back to normal.

did not notice that looks like a leather hitting it. do you run carbon?
Yes that is a leather. The montipora has grown around it. They have been pretty close to each other for quite a while. Could that be an issue? Yes I run carbon.

that could be what upset it how low did it go?

yes leather perform chemical warefare, carbon absorbs toxins if it exhausts they will stay in the water column

1.02-1.021 took 5 or 6 days to get it

1.02-1.021 took 5-6 days to get back to 1.026. Should I relocate the leather? They are attached to the same rock.

You could try changing carbon more frequently see if it helps with the chemical warefare. If you feel comfortable moving him you could try also but it looks like the monti is taking a beating

Thanks. I have a carbon/gfo reactor I change out every 5 weeks should I adjust that? If I attempt to relocate the leather any tips? I appreciate the help.

You could just let mother nature (in our tank) do its thing... see what happens over time. The rest of the monti looks fine. Perhaps it will grow in a cool way to work around it.

And btw, nice job growing that coral out. I find monti caps to be the most sensitive of all montipora.

I’ve got odd pieces in my tank that have gone a little white, it’s largely in areas with lower light levels or were there’s corals growing above them.

Also you have the potential coral warfare as already mentioned

I actually find montipora very invasive and won’t be putting any in my new system as it tends to mummify other corals as it grows.
