Hi im curious what other reefers think i dont have a aqua tec led light with no moon light or blue leds so it gives off a more natrual light and not the bluish glow everyone has been using in their tanks. My question is the moon light important and can i get the same effect just adding blue leds

Moon lights are not needed in any tank, its just for night time viewing.
Yea you can just use elcheapo blue strip light leds as your moon lights.

If I am understanding correctly, you have a LED fixture that has no blue in it at all. If that's the case, then you will likely need something with blue spectrum for coral growth (if you have coral) during your normal photoperiod, but as the others have said moonlights (for night-time viewing) are not necessary. HTH :)

Can you show us your light (or a link to it) to see specs? Also, are you growing corals?

What i meant is i do no

it grew my softies just. Fine. Aqua top

Some moonlights claim to give off same spectrum as true moon lights and claim this is healthier and more natrual my question was is if that bears any truth or can i just add blue leds for the luminescence effect

I helps set the mood for the fish to bow-chicka-wow-wow.

True dat! having a sort of a simulated moon cycle can help set the mood for the fish and even the corals. at least in my opinion. Historically i ran a moon light for about 4 hours. very low blue color.

Ok. If you're light is working for coral, then you don't need a moonlight of any kind. Looks like you're solid! :thumb: Add blue lights if you'd like them.

U guys have all been extremely.helpful this site has been a tank saver !! And for a budget reefer like myself its been a money saver thanks everyone !

With the newer high end less that use lunar phases there is a purpose and benefit to the use. That being livestock spawning. Up until the last 3 years or so blue less were a neat way to watch your corals and fish at night but since the lunar cycle advent with ai the gas did change. A good portion of sexual reproduction in the reef system is done by queues from the moons light and tidal pull. This can be reproduced now in our aquariums and can lead to spawning triggers. I know personally my sabea anemones have spawned in the last year due to the lunar led phases.

But short answer is yeah toss some blue less on and watch what goes on a night in your tank. It's neat stuff.
