Like the title says, are moon phases a useful tool for our tanks inhabitants or just a gimmick? My kessil ap700 has them but I never set them up. Any real data to support real, positive affects of their use?

I use them in my nem tank, but I am trying to induce spawning via moon phases, upping temp, upping flow and dosing large amounts of phyto at the peak moon cycles. I use the Apex module with my own diy led strips, so it is not as bright.

But agree, most out of the box or LED units that do this are too bright.

As for it actually doing something for the tank, I do not think we have enough evidence to know if it is good, useless or bad.

On my radions they auto adjust the moonlight to whatever phase its supposed to be. I do keep the intensity for those lights around 1-2% just enough light to see polyp extension and feeder tentacles come out at night. Mine is only on for a few hrs though before total darkness.
