What brand and color of moonlights do you guys use and why? I want to try out some nice moonlights and would like somewhere to start from.

My moonlights are form digikits.com. I purchased at ebay a 72" led moonlights with a dimer for around $50. There's no need for a lot of intensity in moonlights. Just a blue light at night to see your tank. Led colors are amazing. For some photos of my tank and lights visit their site. In the section of "see our lights in action" my tank are photos #1 to #8.

If you have an Apex (not sure if you do or not), the Neptune Lunar Simulator is the coolest thing out there. You can have it vary its intensity and duration with the actual lunar cycle.

do you leave your moonlights on all night long till the daylight cycle?

someone told me all the lights had to go out in the tank for at least a few hours otherwise you get alot of algae build up?

I wouldnt think the moonlights would do that considering they are so weak...but maybe i am wrong...Anyone know??

I ran led moonlights in my 75gallon before I broke it down. They were on until the actinics came back on the next day. I ran them for years and never an issue.

thanks for the info, now i dont have to point around the lil blue LED on my lighter.. =]

Moonlights are supposed to be on just when all other lights are off. They are too weak to make a change with the other lights. If you can notice the moonlights on with the other lights then they are too strong.

I am trying out current's newest moonlights. Just like their predassors (spelling) the LEDs are dimming quickly. I like white because of the shimmer without making things look unnatural. My main issue is needing something in a small fixture that I can easily install and hide in my tek light fixture.
