I used to have 30 VAC floating in my tank. It would tingle me from time to time. I eliminated it by adding a ground probe in the water. It's tied directly to the main ground for the house. Now if anything hot touches the water it will either just go to the ground, or if it is bad enough it will trip the breaker associated with fault.

Wear shoes with a rubber sole, like a Tennis Shoe, they insulate you from being grounded which will prevent you being shocked.

Electricity has to find a Ground in order to hurt when it passes thru you. If you are Grounded then you will be shocked/electrocuted. If you are Insulated from a Ground, no shock, the current just passes harmlessly thru you.

This is why if you Operate Heavy Machinery you never ever exit the machine if you come into contact with Power Lines. You sit there in your seat, crapped pants and all and wait for the Power Company to come tell you it is safe to exit. If you do try and exit before then, you will get the Jolt of your Life (maybe the last ever) when your foot touches the ground because that is the Ground that completes the Circuit and your body is a lousy conductor, to much resistance, why it tends to hurt if not kill you.

Yes I get shocked every time I see the prices of Corals and equipment at my Lfs

can’t fear what’s already happened
old/bad wavemkaer got me good about 2 years ago

I used to worry after I got a good zap at the fish store I worked at. Now I don’t worry too much.

I keep any plugs off to the side of where I’m working and ideally separated. Before I plug anything in, I dry my hands and I check the plugs to make sure there are no drips

I got shocked pretty good, felt it go up my arm and the GFCI tripped. I was standing barefoot in water and turns out the glass heater was broken.

Don't be dumb like me.

I no longer stand in spilled water barefoot while sticking my hands into the tank. I was young :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I don't really worry about it... I just try not to be so dumb now. Clean up spills right away and slip on some rubber slides.

ive been zapped so many times by xmas lights that I don't even think about it. Grounding probes in every system, anyway.
