Everyone loves a good dino thread, right? I read everyone of them (well not every 500 pages of each thread) and still have no idea what to do. Anyway how do you like my dinos? Maybe I can give em a snappy new name and sell them by the trillions...any takers?

Oops. Didn't finish. Here is the checklist:

a) UV is a must do. 1 watt per 3 gallons. plumbed directly in/out of affected display. Run as slow as possible 2-300 gph. A black out will speed things up.
b) Raise nutrients. Dose nitrate and phosphates. Get PO4 up first before dosing nitrates. Measure both daily. get >10 nitrates and >.1 PO4.
c) Poor man's UV (temporary). Clamp some filter floss on the glass in high light and high flow. Rinse each evening. This is the best means of manual removal.
d) Run GAC for the toxins.
e) No WCs. No amino acids. No phyto. No coral food. Just fish food. Otherwise you are just feeding the dinos. Don't restart aminos for months.
f) Baste corals to release strands.

Some people (asthmatic) report bad reactions to dinos. Ventilate as necessary.

My plan was to turn off my skimmer(been off for almost 2 days so far), small water change to get some of the buggers off/away my sand bed corals, and get a UV. Is there a decent cheap "ish" option available for a 4 ft 75 gallon?

No need to go slow. I beat them few years back. First get a UV, that's a must. Then, just dose N and P to your desired levels. N - I used root killer and made my own mixture. P - Aquavitro Phosphates, it's made for freshwater tanks, so it's nice and clean.

I'll have my phosphate supplement on Monday. I'll order a UV as soon as I know which one to get. Nitrate is already sufficiently high at 15 right now. PO is low which I knew because of the dinos and salifert told me so, but their color chart is various shades of white so an exact reading will have to wait. Hanna checker will be here tonight so I can see how low. So until I can get this stuff should I only use the floss over the pumps? Its really not that bad yet, but don't want things to get out of control

Personal preference, but I like the gas exchange a skimmer performs. I ran mine dry.

Sadly at 75g the super cheap options are out. I prefer the Aqua UV, but the lifegard is probably cheaper and will do the job. It is more bulky and harder to plumb though.

Here is a pic of how I hung the floss. By the end of the light cycle, the thing would be completely gummed up with snot. You won't forget the smell by the time this is over.

Are there any plug and play uv sterilizers. Or is there something that shows exactly what I need to plumb these things. Plumbing is certainly not my strong suit.
Happy for anyone to jump in with another suggestion... going once... going twice...

Some real plug & play exist in the "all-in-one" small tank space but IME experience beyond that none really exist.

Still, you can easily hook a hose up to each end and drop a pump in the display. Easy peasy.

Has anyone worked with lighting and the effects on dinos (other than a total Blackout). I recently increased the UV and Cool White channels on my LED and also replaced my old T5s. Shortly after is when the dinos began. I really haven't made any other changes. I can't think of anything else that may have brought these on.

Changes so far:
Reduced my LEDs UV and White channels to where they were prior to the out break.
Realized my temp may have been a tad low. It was running at 78 so I gave it a bump up to 80 over the last few days.
Hung floss in a high flow area and clean off nightly
10 gallon water change after a sand cleaning
Stopped and restarted skimmer

Results:
While the outbreak has never been catastrophic there is noticibly less dinos after two days. Definitly still there, but not at a point where I'm concerned about them.
