More flow through the Fuge/Sump

Anyone have suggestions on how to achieve more flow thru the sump? An Eshopps R-200(in hindsight I never woulda bought this but too late now) thats fed from an overflow box. The water down there jus seems too stagnant, theres alot of debris in two of the chambers, and I only get good flow for a several hrs to a day and half after a WC before it slows again. It initially sounds like a flushing toilet but that dissipates soon after. Ive tried pouring more water in the display, but it only raises the level in the sump, rendering my skimmer useless until the level drops, but by then its time for a WC. Ive tried to lower the overflow box, and while that did improve the flow initially, now my water level in the display is well below the rim and looks awful. Any other options I am missing or is this just a consequence of the overflow box and there is no remedy short of drilling the tank to replace the overflow?

What overflow and what return pump do you have? In order to get more water moving through the sump, you're going to have to upgrade your return pump, and potentially upgrade your overflow (depended on style and GPH) to accommodate the higher gallons per hour. Adding more water to the display or sump isn't going to increase flow, just increase water volume. Flow is depended on your pumps.
 
Thanks for responding, The return is a Sicce syncra silent 2.0 568gph and eshopps pf-1000 HOB rated for 125-150gal all on 100gal tank

With head loss you're probably closer to 350-450 GPH, so definitely want to get a bigger return pump if you want to increase flow through your sump :)
 
You can either add a small powerhead in that specific chamber to keep things in suspension or add a smaller pump and plumb it from pump chamber back to first chamber.

With nearly zero head you'll have plenty of flow through your sump.
 
Ok I’ll see about how to do that. Not sure how familar anyone is w/ eshoppes sumps but they don’t seem to be designed as well as they could be. The pump just barely fits in the return chamber there is zero room for a bigger pump. I was actually wrong about the return pump it’s the 3.0 rates for 714gph but obviously there’s still a lot of loss.

I did put a small powerhead in the refugium part to keep it from getting stagnant as well
