I have been growing and distributing Ulva intestinalis (but weed) for quite sometime now in the UK and have been ask where you can get it in the US.
The following article will give you more information in this very adaptable remarkable algae that can grow at a phenomenal rate and yes it can be found growing in certain parts of the US going by the article.

Have you read any study on trace elements on this algae? I do remember reading something a few years back on how good this algae used to remove aluminium from aquaria.

Not really and have not heard that. However, algae is known to use heavy metals so it wouldn't be a surprise.

Have you tried eBay? You probably have but worth a try.
Yeah, there is one guy there who claims to have it. The info claims one thing in the title, another in the description and when searching for information on the supplier it seems like there would a massive chance of getting aiptasia and other pests with it as well. I don't have any QT for something like that right now, so not worth the chance even if it were the right variety (which I don't have confidence in). Strange to me that nobody has decided to offer it yet, like AlgaeBarn who I contacted and they said they had no plans to offer it right now. Still searching...

Yes that is strange. However, it only seems to be offered by me on eBay and from time to time one or two others. No company that I know of supplies it live here.

A quote about Ulva.
"Compared to some other seaweeds on the shore Ulva species are also very fast growing and therefore they are normally one of the first species to settle. This trait also means they can be useful in detecting changes to the environment/quality of the water, for example if there is higher nutrients from pollution, fertiliser or land run off etc. Usually the combination of excess nutrients (usually excess phosphorous triggers growth in macroalgae) and longer time in the sunlight (if its summer), creates the ideal conditions to grow fast, the result of which is referred to as a macroalgal bloom."
