So my 3.5mm cord that controls the led lights got fried, and after panicking and running around like a crazy person, I found a spare in the box the light came in. How does this happen? Just one of the 3 metal parts on the end of the cord was corroded and fried. I’ve also had a nitrate spike 2 days ago. In 3 days it went from < 5 to 20. I did an immediate water change and I put some purigen in the filter and now it’s reading almost zero. The melanus wrasse I bought buried itself as soon as I got it and probably just died under there because it never came out to eat. I also cannot find it so that was probably it. Noticed my pulsing Xenia barely pulsing and moved it to lower light and now it’s completely hiding. I think I may have scared it to death. Anyway these are the trials and tribulations of my reef tank. Oh also have green algae which started on the live rock I put in for the refugium that didn’t all fit in the refugium. I have trochus snails. This is probably not an issue, right?

Scary about the cord. Make sure you have a " drip leg " ie U in the cord to prevent water from causing this. I had an overflow of my on the back skimmer, and melted my GFI power bar almost causing a fire. To prevent this get ARC protection on your receptacle

any updates?
Well the Sinularia and Xenia are staying closed. I think it’s just an algae issue now. The nitrates aren’t zero, but they’re less than 5. The algae came in from the aquacultured wet live rock. Doesn’t look like hair algae or Cyanobacteria, but I’m not thrilled with it. Also it says it takes 8 weeks for this coralline algae to get going so I guess I have to wait 6 weeks because I put that in 2 weeks ago (both pink and purple). Not sure about the cord because it’s above the water. I guess water could have splashed up, but the new cord is working fine.
