Hello,

I'm thinking about getting a few Blue Green Chromis this weekend. However, I've heard people say that they kill each other while other people say that they've kept some together peacefully. Which is correct and how many should I plan on getting? My LFS had about 15 or so in the same tank.

I had 6 in a 150 18 months ago. Down to 3 now. They can be bullies. Still a very pretty and very affordable fish that I definitely love keeping. Best of luck :)

Ok, I have a 55 gallon tank with only 2 clowns. How many should I get?
3 of the smalleat you can find or at least all the same size. It can be hit or miss though.

I had 6 saphire damels in my 80 and had to remove 3 due to fighting.

The 120 had a large convict and tomini tang. The convict kept the chromis inline. Had the system almost 3 years.
The chromis are in a 125 display at a lfs now.

These things have been rampant with Uronema, and you can't get it out of a DT without sterilizing it. Do an extra long QT if you risk it.

I would. I've wanted Chromis, too, but one of the most knowledgeable people in the hobby on QT (humble fish) has said he won't currently buy them. They are the most notorious fish for Uronema, it's extremely hard to cure, and once it's in the tank it can live indefinitely with or with out fish present. I'd would QT for 90 days if I was going to buy any.

If you do decide on them put them in at the same time. Once they get bigger you will never be able to add more. I had two that were together for a long time without issues and tried adding more and they bullied the new ones to death. They can also live a long time. Mine just passed recently and he was over 17 years old.

While they are shoalers, at times they are best as a single fish. More important than number is acquiring healthy stock as many are susceptible to uronema disease. I highly recommend giving any you purchase a 60 minute ruby rally pro bath is a CLEAN container with aeration then acclimate to new tank.

Love a school of chromis, cycled the tank with a handful then the male did slowly kill all off. I found it best to add them at the end when they're more worried about big tangs coming their
way and will stay in there only protection which is in a group. Bluey now guides them back and forth all day.

Shoalers are schoolers and How dare you - Youre such a contribution on here
Not trying to be as much a contributor as you sir. Just trying to figure out why you keep pounding the same old "thang"? Check the spelling on that. Nothing you have posted here makes any sense whatsoever. Black out your tank, add vibrant, blah blah blah. Your not Randy as much as you wanna try so how dare you? Come up with some new theories and get back to us. Same old same old. I apologize are you royalty here. Blah blah blah same "THANG" over and over............

What is a shoalers?
"Shoaling" is a loose group of fish swimming together. Shoals may break up into solitary fish, depending on species. As opposed to "schooling", which is a much tighter, more coordinated group, much less likely to break up.. Some shoaling fish can be kept alone, but most if not all schooling fish will be stressed if kept alone. They have quite a bit of overlap, and some places use the terms interchangeably, but they're meant to be two slightly different things.
