Stylophora!! A very beautiful coral. Grows like crazy and provides plenty of hidey holes and swim throughs. If you let it grow too thick, you can't cut it with bone cutters or dynamite. Still trying to figure out how I'm going to thin it out without completely tearing up my aquascape and completely upsetting the balance of the tank.

The LFS sells them for $75 but buys them from you for $5.

I used to just grab every zoa I could. Turns out, most zoas aren’t that interesting looking and the more boring they are the faster they grow. I’m constantly weeding them.

Now I just stick to a few types with bold colors.

My BTA's are straight up taking over the tank. I finally figured out a halfway decent technique for getting rid of some of them, but a few have borrowed so deep into a rock that it's impossible to get at the foot. I've been herding them with power heads a bit, trying to catch them in a crawl to remove. I got 6 out and still have about 25 - all from ONE that I got about 18 months ago.

I generally like them - and their main home is a single rock with probably 20 covering it, which looks cool - but a few have gotten too close to some SPS etc.

So everyone knows about GSP, xenia, kenya trees, cloves and certain other corals being highly invasive, but what are the most invasive/prolific corals in your tank?

For me it's gorilla nipple zoas, Texas trash palys, and green hairy mushrooms (rhodactis).

I'm sure some of the SPS gurus have some they might consider "invasive" as well. I'd love to hear what yours are!

Mine were Jason Fox cry babies. Took over. I mean took OVER. I had to re-do entire aquascape, destroy beautiful growth, and bleach live rock, after intensive scraping/ cleaning. I believe ALL palys are like this. I still have some sprouting randomly, especially on my overflow, manageable now, and up for sale second... metallic rainbow clove polyps. Similar but not as bad as the palys. However I was a bit lax... I’m SPS heavy. So I also have clove polyps if you want lol. But really... anything soft that grows fast will be a nuisance as you and your tank mature in this hobby, love, endeavor. Have fun but be forewarned warned.

Palys gsp. I have an encrusting monti that covers everything in its path. Could be considered invasive.

Rhodactis mushrooms are starting to irritate me! and they are hard to remove. Clove polyps can spread fast but they are easy to pull off the rocks and walls when pruning.

@muzikalmatt - Interesting that the invasive corals are something of a conundrum - in that they can take over your aquarium but also means that you must be done something very right in your aquarium to get that amazing growth.

This, it's every where, hard to kill and even when you do it comes back. I had some growing on my overflow in my old tank. When I moved it, it was out of the water for about 24 hours. Only half of it died.
