I had a 75 gallon aquarium for several years. Upgraded to 125 gallon. Transferred my reef most of the sand and fish. Slowly everything started dying. From about 25 fish I have 7 left. Invested about 400 dollar in chemicals to get rid of nitrates, just bought a nitrate reactor. Keeping my fingers crossed. So far nothing has died for the past 2 days. All the corals are doing great. It's so sad to see all the fish dying, especially my naso tang, who let me post him.

did you test your nitrates? it could be you stirred up alot of crud with the sand.

Sorry about your fish! Hope it all settles down soon.
Several water changes would have done more then any chemical to correct high Nitrates.

Um.. high nitrates usually dont effet fish. it is Nitrites and Ammonia. Sounds like you stirred up a whole lot of nasty with the sand transfer and the shock to the system was too great for it to overcome. 25 fish in a 75? must have been alot of tiny ones.

I think you mean hydrogen sulfide, H2S (H2SO4 is sulfuric acid). Agreed that it's not nitrates. Marine fish can tolerate significantly higher nitrates than freshwater.
