Oh and a disk of GSP I keep with my sps

It’s on a 3” ceramic disk so it doesn’t get out of hand

I think Xenia and GSP are under appreciated for how fast they grow and the nutrients they export

Rated by whom?

To be overrated or underrated, it'd have to be rated, right? Who rates corals? Why would anyone listen to them, whoever 'they' are?

It's your aquarium. Buy what makes you happy, and a price you can afford. I'm much more worried about health of the critters I'm adding than I am about price, or even color, for that matter. I know, the 'show' quality tanks are full of breathtaking colors... but so what? There is NOTHING wrong with a tank full of more affordable, easier to keep corals.

Don't like where the industry is pushing us to be? Don't go there! It's YOUR tank, do with it as you will. Buying hundred dollar quarter inch sticks is _NOT_ something I'm willing to do. Haven't done so, and won't be doing so, thanks.
My thoughts exactly!! New to this hobby and I buy based on what I love! Sometimes that turns out to be more expensive, sometimes it turns out to be the cheap little guy pushed to the back. I never shop by what’s “popular”

I'm _far_ from a newbee... but good for you! Your tank, keep what you like... provided you can give the critter a good home.

Albuquerque, huh? My daughter just moved to Tuscon.

Overrated. Absolutely. And here's why...

Of all the 100+ various corals I have purchased, my all time favorite by far, was one that came as a live rock hitchhiker. A coral I have never seen available for sale online, and have only seen/heard of from others a few times, despite how common it is in the Caribbean and various tropical reefs...

Phyllangia americana aka "hidden cup coral"

Awesome! Do you still have it?

What kind of light is that on the sump? I put some Xenia in the Fowler (high nutrients) but my puffer ate it. I have an algae reactor that I can put some in.

I like the Xenia, thanks for sharing!

Overrated at this time. I’m new to the hobby and the run of the mill stuff is still so exciting and colorful and new.... But I can honestly admit I’m the person in a few years may want to have some of the overrated designer pieces. Right now I enjoy it all as it’s new, and I enjoy putting together contrasting colored frags that compliment each other at a decent price.... as long as they’ll play nice

Underrated from a newbie stand point I would say some Duncan’s which have tons of movement and color and plenty cheap.
My Duncan is my favorite.

I've gotta admit I picked up my first sticks for my mixed reef today. Kinda curious to see if I can keep them alive. No idea what kind but I liked the color at the lfs.

Never really understood the bounce but to each their own really. Now I can't get that picture out of my mind of the one with the man posted earlier haha.

I agree that softies and gorgs are very underrated but I always had a place for them in my last system. That gorgonian in the right was a massive one, the size of a basketball and I loved it. The green leather in front was also a beautiful sight. Ah, I hope all this talk on underrated corals doesn't make them the next "It" corals haha. Heck, I remember the days when colonies were the norm when being sold.

For me growth is underrated... I just like to see reef tanks with longevity and large colonies growing in them regardless of what type. Those reef tanks provide the most encouragement and motivation for everyone in the hobby.

Curious where rock-flower anemone's fall on everyone's radar... worth the dollar? Hardy in general?
