Most reliable quality return pump?

I feel AC pumps consume way to much power and are noisy. My sicce 3.5 would vibrate like a lawnmower

I have to hit my danner 9.5 with a mallet sometimes to get it spinning lol but that’s only to mix salt so I don’t care

Danner mags are pretty darn reliable, but good lord are they loud, and they add heat.

I'm mixing water for a WC right now, and I have a mag 5 in use for that, and it's not even plumbed in and it's so loud, and I even have the cord looped over a stick so it's completely suspended and not touching anything, and I have to do that or I could not sleep from the crazy noise it makes if it even touches the side of the brute can.

One benefit though, I don't need to heat my WC water to match display, the mag does that for me just fine!

That’s funny I do the same thing with mine so it’s not hitting the mixing container and ditto on no heater needed lol

well the question was what is the most reliable

Exactly my thoughts as well, and yes, DC pumps are quieter, I do give them that, but the controller adds another element of potential failure.

Any pump that hoses or plumbing are touching panels or other objects can vibrate or make noise, and this is especially true or more so when hard plumbed.

Lol, yeah, and I've only had to do this w/ this mag, and what's worse is I bro'd someone down by giving them my eheim in trade for this mag since it was just for WC's, and the other guy needed quiet for his display.

I knew I was getting the lesser of the 2 pumps, but good lord I did not realize I'd lose sleep over that dang thing running if I don't have it suspended just right!

When I think of mags, I think of old ford trucks, they may be loud, not efficient, run warm, but they'll probably get ya where ya need to go!

Indirectly related... one of the major sponsors of this site is presently running a sale on the Eheim pumps. Not sure if posting a link is allowable so I'll just say it's easy to spot the big price differences is googled.

If they are a site sponsor you can link it all day

Yes and you should post to save me from searching!
I would be surprised though if it's the compacton I'm looking at as those are new...

The compacts are actually re-branded Eden pumps. They are good, I've had one running a while with a reactor, but they are not true Eheim designs.

Yes I'm aware of the compacts that were a design they bought out, but now I see a new design labeled as compacton, it appears to be a different design/new pump from Eheim...I think.

Interesting, didn't know those existed.

Fairly new, and while many people did like the compacts, they were not an original eheim design, so in my mind and reading comments not as consistent in dependability or overall experiences as compared to the real deal eheims.

I just started looking into these compactons, I'm assuming they actually are an eheim design, and they would fit well for my own application.
I was waiting for reviews deciding on this, or the sicce pro.

I’m not a fan of dumping big money into a simple piece of equipment.

I’m a firm believer in having a backup on hand for key pieces of life support

So I have 2 Jebao pumps (1 in use, 1 spare)with battery backup

Total cost $250.
