What do you think are the most underrated corals in the hobby? Great corals that dont get alot of attention that in your opinion not enough people keep. I find the nicer palys to be underrated. Grandis palys or death palys tend to be over shadowed by all these zoa morphs despite being good corals to keep.

I think anything that is labeled "Beginner" gets shunned because people don't want to be thought of as beginners. They want to move on to the "Good Stuff" to prove their worth as an established reefer. I've kept mushrooms alive for 10 years. "Whoopi"

Anything that isn't acro seems like they are underrated for the most part. Sure the occasional chalice or bounce mushroom get attention, but nothing like those acros.

So many other cool sps like montis, and many lps that are as or more challenging to keep than acros.

It does seem like soft coral are due for a resurgence. It would be awesome if collecters really started to look for more varieties to aquaculture and get people excited about them again.

I'm in love with almost every chalice I've seen (however I wouldn't really consider them underated...). I have so many that I don't have room for more but cant stop myself from wanting more... In a similar catagory I think pectinia's are stunning and have only seen a few awesome sized colonies...

Agree on nemenzophyllia. Also would like to add gorgonians and goniastrea. Honestly even montiporas should be up there IMO, when people think of cool corals its usually acros, chalices, euphyllia, and zoas. Some of the montis are amazing and quite easy to care for.

Torch, many many reefers LOVE them some nems but won't put one in their high dollar SPS tanks for obvious reasons. Something as simple as the sway of a beautifully colored torched placed along the sand in a corner some where can really set off even the most well kept tanks.

I stole this image from @AquaSD I hope they don't prosecute in exchange for the free advertizing

Probably @A Toadstool Leather ;)

But really, I think most softies go unappreciated.
Agree, most people look down on them if they are not zoas despite how nice they are. I have a really nice neon green sinularia which has been a great coral to add.

Why do you say with caution regarding hydnophora?

Hydnophora can produce mesenterial filaments that are long enough to reach corals 5 inches away, killing any near by corals. This one needs a wide berth.

I don't hear much about blastos except the occasional insane color morph...I personally find it entertaining to feed them and watch them turn themselves into little tacos

Blastos used to be obscure and cheap, but they're now one of the most expensive corals you can buy!
I personally think Leptos are under appreciated
