Hello all so I’ve come to a a conclusion that I will be needing something to help raise and lower my light canopy over the tank. My canopy weighs about 80-120#’s and is 96”x29”. I have been looking and I have found Linear Actuators and winches.

my question is what would be easier annd safer?
Does anyone have any brands they recommend and setups if possible.
Thank you all in advance

I knew someone how had a system he bought to remove the Hardtop from a Convertible. Not sure what brand it was. He started off with the hand wench, then added the motor later.

hit up Chris Benner he can point you in the right direction. I forgot the name of his woodwork company but he does some insane custom work. he did a st judes giveaway a while back and it was a motorized canopy. The size and weight might make it a pricey option however and a manual implementation might be the way to go for your application.

Mr. Saltwater did a review of a tank system recently that had a slick canopy that was remote controlled. I think I saw someone mention chandelier lifts in a thread and using one of those looks interesting depending on how it is set up.

A lot of people I know use a simple pulley system which is similar to the hardware used to raise and lower a flag. Very simple yet effective.

HERE IS A MOTORIZED TYPE:

@Jrod381 I've seen a number of folks use linear actuators and more recently someone modified a motorized TV lift to do the same. Good luck and keep us posted!
