Hey guys,

Need some help. I want to mount a 36" ATI Dimming SunPower 4 bulb with 2 XR30 RMS. I can't go from the ceiling or back of stand or do anything on the back wall. I think it will work but looking for feedback... Here's the tank picture below.. The tank is a Innovative Marine 30L. Glass looks think enough to handle the weight...

A floating canopy comes to mind for me but, since it can't be attached to the ceiling or wall makes that more of a challenge.

Agreed. Wish ATI had a mount that could just go to the tank.

Sorry hit post reply to fast. Thanks for your reply. I'm going to try and see. Hopefully it works then others can do the same thing if it works. Luckily I'm selling my Radions so I have the RMS so we will see.

There was a thread in the ATI forum that mentioned they were going to come out with a mount for ATI fixtures.
Not sure what kind of progress has been made or any other details.

My concern is that you won't have the ability to adjust the fixture's height. So the RMS mount is 8" off the water surface which means the ATI fixture will be around 6" which is quite low and could cause some bleaching if not acclimated properly. Do you have the dimmable version? If that is your tank it's shallow which means the acclimation must be done right otherwise you can damage livestock.

P.S. Looking at your baseboard in the photo, it looks like you have a dog that likes to eat baseboard trim...lol
My coworker's dog used to eat the trim and drywall when left alone and out of her crate. When he went to move out of his apartment, we had to spend a couple days patching that stuff up.

Attach it to the back of the credenza. Find a golf cart shop or a aluminum fabricator. Have them cut and weld to L shaped mounts/brackets out of aluminum 1.5" X1.5" square material. then drill out a hole, for the top mounting and drill two holes in the bottom part of the L bracket and mount the bracket to the backside of the credenza 2 " stainless carriage bolts and nyloc nuts and a finder washer .

Are you just wanting to take the radions down and replace them with an ATI unit? (I thought you were trying to figure out a way to supplement the LEDs.)

If so, you could probably just unscrew the Radions and bolt the ATI fixture to the RMS plates. You might have to rotate the RMS plate to front to back to avoid the fans on the ATI unit, but it should hold it just fine as long as the glass and seams are strong enough to withstand the force.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yes it's the dimmable version and yes I would like to take down the Radions and just mount them right there. I thought about the acclimation so I got the dimmable. I thought about mounting something to the back but would be a challenge with the plumbing that goes to a remote sump in the bottom right of the cabinet. Even though it's a AIO Innovative Marine 30L I wanted a larger skimmer. I get the fixture Tomorrow so we will see. I will be sure to take pictures. I even thought about the spread so I got the 36" ATI fixture for a 36" tank.

Yes I do have a Belgian Malinois who is one of a kind. As a puppy she was a challenge and smarter then then most adults I know now.

If you cant use ceiling or wall, and are uncomfortable with using the tank iself, that leaves 1 option that I like.

You can build mount onto the stand.
It can be as simple as 3 pieces of wood making a shelf drilled into the stand. Or as complex as stick framing a removable enclosure around your tank, and then using 1/8in paneling to cover it, then painting it to match your stand. You could take the entire thing off and on, for heavy maintenance. Or you could drill 2 acrylic dowels into the stand in the back, then drill in an acrylic mounting plate for your two lights. EDIT: Oh and you can get one that has adjustable height since people seem to want to adjust them and get things perfect. OR you can use clamps and raise and lower the plates that way.

The option I like less, but useable if you are also not comfortable messing around with anything on your stand...

You can build a tv dinner stand for your tank... LOL

Well you get the idea, just need the counter balance bottom and slide it under your tank in the back. People will only see a tube, or piece of wood, and your lights mounted on a mount. Once again you can go easy and cheap, or stylish and complex. But it the same principle either way. If you do it with metal tubing, or plastic tubing for the middle part you can set it up so you can slide it off and on and assemble it under the tank without moving anything. A slight bend will make it easier to balance. and stop it from tipping over, if you are using light weight materials with limited counter weights. Anyway, look at some stands like this and I am sure the web has a diagram somewhere if you have no idea where to start.

I actually love the TV dinner stand idea. If you look back at my pic of the tank the tank is 36" and the stand is for a 48". I could just skip it over even fasten it straight down... That would leave space for the vortechs as well. Cool idea...

Glad I could help. Have fun making it. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Will do thanks... The best part is the concept of this tank is a frag tank that can easily be broken down to be moved when I buy a house. To remove the lights all I would need to do is pick them up.

Tank looks amazing in that pic. I love the Pico tank in the center also. That is awesome.

A t5 fixture weighs much more compared to the radions. Too much pressure on the glass I feel. I wouldn't chance it.

Thanks man... It's my small attempt at an LPS frag tank with lower flow. It also houses my angler which is in my icon next to my user name. Wanted to build something different. It interconnects to the sump in the right part of the cabinet and is connected to the 30. The left cabinet is the ATO reservoir and a 5 gallon mixing reservoir for water changes.

When I get the fixture I'll make my final decision on what I'll do... May take the time to have the painters at my work paint it black as well...

Any update on this. I'm switching to the ATI dimmable from radions as well and I'm hoping to hang the ATI fixture to my Radion RMS mount as well.

Hello... Unfortunately I never went this route as I went to a larger tank. My only fear with this could the glass hold the pressure. The arm wouldn't be an issue and I think with the 4 points on the mount side wouldn't be an issue. (I think).

I would suggest since its on my new build is to look at 80/20. This stuff is awesome and very versatile. It's super strong and for the cost would be the same as the rms. Here's my build thread.
