Has anyone mounted a power head on their overflow?I have a corner overflow with plenty of room onthe inside for a magnet.are any mounting magnets waterproof?as it would be inside the overflow.

Interesting question ! Also a good point Alfrareef makes I'm curious .
Also You could order an encapsulated magnet from "Octo something" He just had a give away here.

The mounting magnet should be fine underwater. You can always just drop the powerhead to the bottom of the overflow. It will kick up any detritus that settles at the bottom of the overflow box. You can put it on a timer so it comes on say 15 minutes every hour. I used to do this in my old tank. I used a maxi jet pump though instead of a powerhead but the principle is the same.

If you meant for the powerhead to be outside of the overflow box, that should be fine. I have done that in my old tank as well.

The other way around...

The place I was thinking of for encapsulated magnets is "Octo Aquatics"
I'm not sure if a Magnet designed for out of tank would be trust worthy . You could always try, you will know real soon if it leaks.

I had a couple of MP10's mounted to my overflow for years. Worked out well. Never had a problem with magnets rusting. Just be careful not to drop the magnet into the overflow. Can be a real bear to get it back out..

I have done this many times, including on my current tank with a pair of WAV pumps and a Jebao. You just have to make sure the ‘external’ magnet is submersible. The majority of the are, in many cases the external and internal magnets are sealed in the same way.

Obviously you cannot do this with the vortech pumps.

LOL I doubt an MP10 would work being attached to the overflow for many years. I've been wondering about doing this with my new build. In your experience you've had no issues with magnets contaminating the tank? I have plenty of Sicce Xstreams, koralias and jebao in storage and thinking of using these. Maybe it wise to keep a bag of carbon in the sump as a safety measure.
