I bought an IceCap Gyre 3K from another reefer to put in my 120G center overflow tank.
Because of budget, I will only have 1 Gyre and I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount it on my tank.
I have 2 Koralia pumps that I will keep in the tank so I'm not worried about flow but I'm not sure what will create the best patterns.

My current thought is to keep the Koralias at each end of the tank and mount the Gyre on the central overflow.
Is it a bad idea to mount it on the overflow? Will the weight and vibration possibly damage the overflow or its seal with the tank?

Or, should I have the Gyre horizontal on one end and the 2 Koralias on the other (possibly one on the back and one on the side?)

Any thoughts?

I have a similar issue with my tank. Mine is a 50 gal cube. I have my gyre on the right side and the other pumps on the back wall of the tank. I’m not sure how you could even mount the gyre on the overflow. Won’t the dry side magnet get wet as water flows down the overflow? My setup gives very random flow over the reef.

I've never owned a gyre and did not know that getting the magnet wet would be an issue. My Koralias could be mounted on the overflow and it wouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for the picture, it looks like I am overthinking this thing and should probably just go with a similar configuration as yours

Thank you

I have a center overflow on a 8 foot long 300g, tank is up against the wall so I had to mount magnets on the overflow aimed at both the left and right sides. I don't have a gyre but I was thinking of doing exactly what your describing for the middle, I have had the magnets underwater for almost 1 year and have 2 ATI tests that don't show any crazy traces of heavy metals.

I wouldn't hesitate to put the 'dry' side magnet under-water on the overflow. I think it actually sounds like a pretty good spot in your case.

I have my gyre on the overflow of a peninsula. Reach out to octo aquatics about acrylic encasing of the exterior magnet.

I shipped my magnet to octo and he sent back one sealed in acrylic. It’s been in my overflow for months now with no problems.

I have my maxspect gyre place on my overflow in a peninsula as well. According to maxspect the magnets are waterproof and as far as I can tell they have been. A quick edit...not "waterproof", but according to Carlos "water resistant".

My Gyre will be an IceCap, not Maxspect so I don't think I can rely on this information unfortunately.
I was unaware of the issue of magnets in the fish tank (tank is less than a year old and still learning...) but this has me slightly concerned now even though you guys are reporting that you had no issues.

I wouldn't do it. The magnets on the outside are probably not sealed up properly to prevent rusting and swelling of the magnets. I have my gyre on the right end of the tank and it gives me nice flow

Do what I did and have an extra later of protection. Reach out to octo aquatics to encase in acrylic. No worries.

In your case i'll put the gyre on one side and the 2 koralias on the other, that gyre alone move a lot of water, the koralias will help with make it more random.

i would put the gyre on one side at the top and then, if possible, put the koralias at the bottom, back corners to help keep dead spots off the bottom

What about heat seal plastic, like you use for food, around the "dry magnet"?
