Mounting Mars Aqua under Canopy

The tank that I bought used had 2 mars aqua mounted in the hood and what he did was he drilled L brackets (not sure that's what they are actually called) to the side of them, then the other end he drilled to the hood. He didn't cut out any holes in the hood for air circulation, but there was about 1-2 clearance from the top of the light, to the canopy itself.

Thank you so much for the response. Actually I think this is the route that I may go. The L brackets are pretty easy to pick up at Lowe's or Home Depot. I will be concerned about air circulation. (what did you think about it?) Also, any moisture problems?

Currently I have a nice 48" black box with no fans (but 18 years old) and should be replaced. Also, mine doesn't get hot at all. Do the Mars get hot? Warm at top or bottom?

I cant really speak to much about heat in the canopy as I never used the lights, nor the canopy on my tank. They are currently sitting in the garage.

How tall is the canopy?

I've got some mounted in mine. Give me a minute and I'll post how I did mine.

Aluminum rods and wood eyelet screws. I used chains and hooks for the hangers, instead of the wire hangers that came with the boxes. Allows for adjusting them up or down. Lights are 12" above waterline.

I just laid them on trim pieces. So you could put some cross-pieces in the canopy and set them on them

My Mars/ ViparSpectra should be here tomorrow or Friday at latest. I will need to get creative to mount them under the Canopy. It is 8" total from waterline to mount area.

Currently my blackbox is 3.250" from waterline and 1.750" from top. My light is currently 2.5" thick. I understand that the Mars is about 2" thick, but has Fans, where mine does not.

I am worried that it may pick up moisture at the distance of 3.250" from waterline instead of the 12" that most hang from the ceiling. Also, I am using (2) Mars 165 on my 48" long tank.

Any thoughts? Would like to hear from everybody.
