Anyone with tips on mounting mini colonies to the rocks? After going through quarter tube of 2 part epoxy and tons of super glue I gave up on re mounting this acro that keeps falling off. So top heavy and very annoying to get to hold anywhere.
i make up a piece of epoxy and push a hole in the top
and the put super glue in that put the coral in and squeeze it a bit and let the epoxy set
then i will mix up more epoxy to stick the new coral base to the rocks
I dont think the epoxy and glue combo is strong enough to set in time before it can wiggle out. You se who top heavy the coral is in pic. The base extends further to the right of photo behind the rock where I've got it just laying sideways. Maybe it'll be good there. It's only about 3 to 4 inches from the surface i just had to get it out of the way since it keeps falling.
Horizontally mounted acros can be tricky! It looks like a stag and one way I’ve found to work with those is use a (reef safe) tool to drill out a hole slightly bigger than the base. Add glue and jam the base in the hole.
It was upright before about mid tank height but inevitably starts to wobble and falls off whether i knock it or a fish runs into it. Then getting it to stick back down with gobs of epoxy and glue is nearly impossible so its just sitting up very high horizontally in those crevices as I've given up.
The next thing I've got trying is that 3 way PVC. I've got that sitting on a branch with epoxy and glue and waiting overnight. Maybe once it is dried on there I can epoxy the base of the tort into one of the free spots in front.
I really should drill the rock when I move. Tanks coming down in 3 months so not sure I'll try to tear it apart now to do it, but would be an excellent time to drill when it gets moved. Which tool do you recommend?
