Mounting the Gyre vertically?

Can they gyre be mounted vertically instead of horizontal without any issues?

I do it, really the only issue I've seen is with the sand... it tends to blows around if it's a little to close.... outside of that in a 6ft long tank it acts to move the water in a circular motion.
