mounting torchs so you can frag later?

so I just mounted my torch to the area that will be my torch garden. I used the "sandwich method" with Jb water weld and supper glue.

then I got to thinking if/when i want to frag them in a year time to sale or trade for other corals how in the heck an I going to do that?


so for you guys that have mounted LPS coral and frag regularly how do you do it?

Bone cutters in the tank if it’s branching then clean up the jagged cut on a frag saw, Dremel or grinder with diamond blade to flatten it out for glueing on a plug.

I was wondering about bone cutters in the tank.
guess you rince w=real well after so they don't rust?


anyone know of an epoxy that holds but still can pop off? I am dreaming here...lol

Yes just rinse and dry them and don’t put Oil or lube on them. Most are stainless so they don’t rust too much but if not rinsed they eventually will.

some of tools have some type of black coating, I believe it’s a dlc type (diamond like coating) really tough and rust resistant. I have some long tweezers with it and rarely rinse them off even with daily use and no rust. But coatings are only as good as how well they were applied so it’s possible for the base metal to rust or corrode underneath the coating just something to pay attention too.

as for epoxy- I use the aqua sticks purple or grey and i find that it doesn’t hold all that well unless it’s dried and cured outside of water. I’ve been able to remove many corals from it, and pull it off rocks when i mixed it up and placed in the tank and cured under water.

I rarely glue my LPS corals down. I normally just find a hole to snuggle them into or glue them onto a piece of rubble and sit that into the larger rock.

in the past some have been able to pop off and other did not. maybe it was the amount of superglue i used?

I have lots frags in the past doing it that way. I dont remember if there where LPS but I know i lost a few gorgs doing it that way. like everything in the world there are pros and cons to it all.

I love being able to move stuff around as you are stoking the tank. but not seeing the coral upside down on the sand bed.
