Just looking for any suggestions on this move. The tank Im moving has 2 mating clowns and anemone, should I keep them together?? If I remove all the sand/base in the tank should I rinse it or just put in back in my tank.

i would keep them together set up something with the same salinity and heat while you move. do not rinse the sand unless you use saltwater to rinse it.Good luck.

I highly reccomend washing the sand with a hose of possible. You will kill the life in the sand but not doing this set me back drastically for 3 months.

Keep a few cups of sand to keep some of the life.

Either rinse the sand well, or just replace it. I have never reused sand during any move.. Too much trapped stuff, will lead to issues.

I always freshwater rinse my sand and kill all the life off as well as remove the nastiness. The liverock will reseed it in no time.

If I rinse the sand or replace it with new how long will I have to wait before I put everything in the tank (fish & corals). I'm working against time here.

put all new sand, then just put all your live rock back in with 50% new water and 50% old water from the tank and you should be good.

ive also moved a tank with the sand in it and had no problems. but the tnak had only been set up for 6 months before moving so ther ewasnt much waste in it. i drained it down as far as i could, water basically down to whats just in the sand. then just carfully moved it out to the truck and drove very gingerly accross town. no sudden stops or go to keep if from slushing around. tank has been back up and running almost a year no set backs.

I don't understand where the disconnect is, but washing the sand in freshwater kills all bacteria as well as cleans the sand. It is like using new sand. If we were talking 5lbs for a nano then yes new sand but sand for a 90 isn't cheap while washing it is.

I have moved and set up atleast a dozen tanks from 30-240 gallons this way and no I'll effects. If there were an issue how could anyone ever sell sand that isn't new?

This is what I did with my tank when I upgraded in Dec ... so far, everything is doing great

I think the point here is to avoid putting detritus back into the aquarium. When stirred up this could release an ammonia spike. So, dunk your live rock to remove detritus and either wash out or replace with new sand. I don't see a problem washing your sand with fresh water so long as you retain the bacteria on your rocks. It would be the same as replacing with new unseeded sand...

The move is done and everything is running. Need to do water tests yet, and gain more knowledge on this refugium setup. Thanks for all the posts.
