Situation: I purchased an IM 100 EXT during the Black Friday sale. It arrived and got placed in the detached garage, crate and all. Now I’m trying to work out how to get it into the house.

Idea: Since the tank is still effectively crated, I was wondering if I could use rollers (say 2” PVC pipes) and my lawnmower to pull the crate into the back yard. From there, I would need to get assistance to lift the tank onto the deck, and from the deck in through the sliding door and onto the stand. Any suggestions/better ideas on how to move this monster?

Find some people. Pay them 20 bucks each for 15 mins work if you need to. Prep everything ahead of time. Neighbors are a good source. A couple of bigger high school kids.

I am assuming this fits through doors easily enough and no major obstacles like step stairs.

Also isn't 250ish lbs the whole darn package? Why not open up the crate and carry each thing individually? I am assuming a bit with that comment. You could probably shed a dozen plus lbs of stuff inside plus the crate?

are you moving it across grass from the detached?

That’s the hard part. There’s about 100’ between the garage door and the gate, then back another 150’ to the deck. That’s a long distance to be carrying something this heavy.

The other two doors don’t offer enough room to get the tank in horizontal.

BTW, the 250# is just the glass, not the crate. That adds another 100#s. The entire shipment including stand was over 400#s.

you're idea with the pvc will work, but use 3" if you go that route. we use that to pull our boat over dykes.
I would use a moving quilt to get it from the garage to the deck and then put it on a refrigerator dolly.
my son and I moved my 150 XHigh up 2 steps from the garage and then down in to the basement with a dolly.

you bought the stand?? o_O

I bought 75g tank and carried it with 1 friend. No problems at all, not heavy at all. I can imagine that 100g can't be much heavier that that.
Instead making it rocket science operation maybe you can just try with your friend?

Uncrate it. Get those big Suction cups with handles, it makes it WAY easier. 100 Gallon tank should fit in most doorways.

Any big box hardware stores have the HD suction cups or even Amazon. With these 2 of you could move it easily.

I would get a large heavy piece of cardboard and drag it over the grass with the machine if it is smooth.

On concrete and in the house I used 2 furniture dollies.
I got an 8 foot stand in by myself and I am 59.

@RocketEngineer I understand you may have difficulties with heavy lifting. But that size of a tank doesn't require special operation. 2-3 people would take care of it easily. I mean you don't need to have bunch of people.
I hope you will figure it out soon, empty tank is sad tank :)

I have yet to hear anyone give good reason not to move the tank in it’s shipping crate via rollers and the lawn mower. That’s the longest distance and my biggest concern. After that I might just go to the local fire department and ask about getting some strong backs for an hour at most in return for a donation of some sort. They would only have to carry it maybe 20 feet and the deck stairs are as wide as the deck itself.
