I recently decided to start a rock flower anemome garden in my Red Sea Max 170E. Found several beauties at @AquaSD and decided to place one down low against the base of my live rock structure and another a bit higher on an empty rock ledge. These were simply test placements as I understood they would move if I had chosen poorly.
Both stayed put for weeks and showed signs of growth and vigor so I thought to move the higher one down next to the lower one to start the garden and to free the ledge for something else.
Methods tried:
1. ice cube method - failed
2. invert the rock just above water - failed
3. method #2 with tapping of back of rock - failed
4. light deprivation - I inverted the rock so the anenome was upside down in a cave and watched carefully for days. I knew it would eventually move into the light. On day 5, rock flower nem was on top of the rock again! I think the dang thing squeezed through a crevice and was almost exactly in the same spot!
5. Worked!
I placed my new gold torch right next to it. Sure enough, less than a week later, it started to move. I waited until it was puffed up and clearly moving. I lifted it right off the rock by hand and placed it in its new home...
It looks happy in its new home with its 4 other RFA neighbors. So glad. Was not willing to hurt the thing. Not recommending the method, just sharing a story.
Cheers!
