I had to move last week suddenly.. This hobby is not easy to move in a hurry. I'm currently at my new location and struggling to put all back together by myself. I'm so exhausted from moving everything here. That I just want to sleep, but corals are sitting in buckets and trash cans. Already lost 1 fish. Has anyone else had horrible experiences moving your reef tank. Let's talk about it.

Moving tanks full of livestock is almost always an exhausting job and fraught with serious risks. I'd almost rather sell all the livestock, move the hardware and start over.

Best of luck and hang in there.

I’ve moved tanks in the same house. Not easy. I can’t imagine dragging them long distance. Not easy. Although I’ve never lost a coral or fish in a move from tank to tank, things did have a hard time adjusting. Key is aeration IMO.

You’d be surprised how hardy fish can be.

Last time I moved they sat in a large tub in the kitchen for two months. All rock, water, and fish. No one died.

Coral and trickier.

Honestly everything can be put back together in a day if you just hustle.

I moved 2 tanks last year and I can relate to your pain. Easier said then done, but next time try to have a plan. I couldn't fathom moving tanks on short notice.

I'll be driving some fish and coral 5 hours. Planning to try a battery powered aerator myself. Fingers crossed.

Should be fine. Buying coral online takes over 20 hours to get to you.

My experience, I had to move a 55G out twenty feet, then fill it back up with every coral and fish. Then slide the 112G in and transfer everything over. I was done! I felt 75 and on my death bed. But I wasn’t stressed?

Make a plan.. a timeline and stick to it. It’s so easy to get discouraged but if you set a plan you’ll be ok. I’m moving my 180 next month to our new house. I’m already making the plan.

Went through a big move before; find a LFS that you can get some RODI and saltwater for the short term until you get resettled. I would stock up some to have around initially.

Doing it again I would set up something temporary ahead of time (sounds like you didn’t have that option) to hold livestock short-term and take time to set the tank back up.

Good luck!

I moved last year when I bought our house and talked to the landlords at the last place to let me keep my tank there for up to two weeks while I set up a new tank. I went every 2 days to feed and check on everything while I set up a quick 65g. Went to go pick up my fish and coral and my nems died and killed everything in my tank but one fish and a few polyps ;Nailbiting;Nailbiting;Nailbiting only reason I have my tank now was to keep the sole survivor of the crash alive and now I'm back to a full mixed reef in a 65g lol. Shesh
