My wife and I bought a new house this past Friday. I finally have a basement which means super sized fish room!

However, I really could use some advice, opinions, or direction as to what to do next. I still have to sell my house and currently have 2 tanks up and running, a 150 at 5 years and the other the 29g bio cube just over a year. They're doing great and getting incredible growth!

The realtor says tanks will be a distraction for any potential buyers and need to go. Do any of you have any experience with selling your house with your fish tanks up and running and did it turn away potential buyers?

Now I have the greatest wife in the world, she's like, you are NOT getting rid of those tanks just to show the house. Again, breaking down a 5 year old tank with some corals being there since the beginning of the tank (after it cycle of course!) :) and it'd be tough to get rid of them because they're huge!

So my options are as follows. I could build a temporary tank at my parents place, unfortunately, they live just over an hour away and don't know much about tanks except that they look awesome. Obviously the downside to this option is that if something goes south with the tanks, I'm quite a ways away. Plus I travel quite a bit and to have to make a 1 hour road trip there to fix something is not appealing at all, plus tank maintenance once a week would be a strain on my time and energy.

I did ask a good friend and fish tank buddy of mine if I could build one in his basement because he lives all of 20 minutes from me, but I think he balked at the idea. (He has a lot of tanks).

My other option is to just go ahead and sell all of my live stock, and put everything into storage, which is the probably the easiest and most cost effective.

I can't think of any other options.

Thanks guys!

Who knows maybe a fellow reefer will be interested in your house and you'll be able to sell it with the tanks [emoji4]

Did you say you already bought a house? Maybe you can set something up there?

Forget the realtor.

In most cases the statistics indicate a new home buyer is going to remodel something in the house. So just make it easy on yourself and pace the sale and move of your tanks to meet your needs. The buyer will in most cases work with you. Find another realtor if this one is to 'stuffy' for you. The tanks will neither help or hinder the sale of your home. Just make sure they sparkle when the house is shown. You may have to answer lots of questions about your hobby since many people are blown away by a nice looking tank.

Wish you well on your sale and move.

A fellow reefer buyer would be perfect!

Yeah it's new construction so just an empty field right now. I'm thinking I'll talk to builder see if I can start setting up 45 days early.
