I'm moving after Christmas and thought I had moving day figured out. The plan was to keep everything but the sandbed and 50% of my current water. I wanted to have a fresh batch of water mixing at the new house waiting for the tank to arrive. Add in new sand, scape the tank, then add back the 50% old water and 50% fresh water mix. My concern with this is my Alk tends to float around 8.5 and freshly mixed Reef Crystals has an Alk of 10.7 (last I tested). Would my Alk spike too much if I changed 50% of the water?

Second option would be keep 75% and add the new 25% (my usual weekly water change amount) when I set the tank back up, followed by another 25% the next day.

What would you guys do?

i'd agree with the second option slow and steady wins the race. additionally maybe take a filtersock and run the pump through it to get rid of all of the detritus etc
