We have a 55 gallon that is infested with ich and we are going to move the fish from there to another temporary tank and go fallow for the 72 day period. 1 of the fish (foxface) is going to go from that tank to our new 180 gallon DT. None of the fish currently have any ich on them.

My question is do we need to dip or do anything else to the fish we are moving to the temporary tank before we add them to keep it out of the that tank?

How long will the foxface need to be in the temporary tank before we can move him to the DT? If he doesn't currently have ich is there a dip or anything we can do and put him straight in the DT or does he need to go through a treatment period as well?

Even though the fish do not show signs of ich, they can still carry it to any display tank.

The fish need to be treated with copper or chloroquine phosphate while in quarantine. As long as the quarantine tank has the right dose of copper or CP, no other treatments should be required. Freshwater dips can be used to alleviate symptoms on heavily-infected fish.

The foxface should also undergo quarantine protocol.

The display tank should be left fallow (fishless) for at least 72 days, so you're on the right track there.

That's what I thought the answer would be, just wanted to check with you guys.
How long would the foxface need to be treated before being moved to the new tank? 2 weeks? 30 days?

Ich-X works great for treating ich. I and many others have personally had success with this product.

Copper for 14 days if using TTM at the end. If only using 1 QT after treatment then 30 days of copper.

I just went through this and transferred my fish at 35 days to the QT to observe.

Now one of them has some white thread hanging in him. Not near the gills but the spine area. Fresh water dip and think flukes. So now I'm dealing with that in the NEW QT. Any new ideas would be helpful ;)

OP Make sure whatever you do that you are prepared for other things to pop up like flukes or infections. Having a good supply of meds on hand isn't a bad idea.

does Ich-X work? I have it from my freshwater but wasnt sure for saltwater

Just my opinion, but I’ve found the Tank Transfer Method most effective for me when dealing with Ick. I’ve tried copper and had difficultly keeping the right effective concentration levels as test kits are not always precise. The TTM needs two tanks and it’s pricey for salt and more manual labor every few days, but having dealt with ick on a display tank, it’s worth the 12-15 days of extra effort.
