I'm planning on ordering my new tank tomorrow, then in a few weeks I'll change over my fish to the new tank. The new tank is going to be set up in the same room as my current tank before it's removed so if my temperature and salinity are the same, can I just catch them and put them straight into the new tank?

As long as you're using the old live rock (bacteria source) you should be fine. But, as you mentioned, make sure your salinity and temp are spot on. I always recommend adding a bottle of bacteria during a tank transfer to cover your losses during the move.

Yep I'm using my current rock, and I added a brightwells nytrx brick about six weeks ago, the only thing new will be water and sand.

@becks how did this work out for you. I'm doing the exact same thing and wondered if you have to cycle the new tank if you're using the same rocks and in my case marine pure block from the sump. New sand in the new tank. Thanks.

Yeah it was fine, I had no issues and everything went smoothly. I never had to cycle the new tank because I used the existing rock and I also had the brick and seachem denitrate in a reactor. once the sand was settled and water heated up the transition was really quick.

I actually just did this as well. I am going through it still...sorta. I have some sand I need to put in but I have my stuff completely set up kinda need to glue my rock so it doesn't fall when I put it in. But make sure you acclimate well ecspecially with inverts and corals I took almost an hour on my anemones alone
