Im finally moving out of my 45 that I have had for 2 years now to a 75. I'm open for ideas on how to make the transition smooth. I do have corals such as trumpet, zoas, GSP, and also some and some others. So do I have to let the new tank cycle since I'm buying it from a guy at work? He has salt water in it currently and two fish I believe. So please throw some ideas/thoughts/should do's out haha

ps. Happy Holidays!

Congrats!! Good luck with the move! :D

When I moved from my 30 into my new 80 I took everything out, live rock/sand, inverts, etc., and put them in buckets of water. I then moved the sand into the new tank. . I saved all the water and reset the new tank with everything from the new tank. Finally I added enough new (treated) water to fill the tank and sump and put in the fish. Everything went well and survived. I didn't even notice a mini cycle. My xenia was pretty droopy for a few days and had some die off, but it came back and is doing fine. You just have to make sure to transfer as much of the beneficial bacteria as possible and not add any livestock for awhile, until things settle and re-establich themselves. The existing live rock/ sand should be able to handle the same amount of load you had before. Basically it ends up going like a large water change.

How long would I have to wait to place my live stock back in the tank?

Also, should I use the water from my tank or use the water from my co-workers tank? His system is up and running so I dont know weather to start new or to use the current water in either mine or his.

I would use new water. I would also have plenty of saltwater on hand just in case there is a mini cycle. This way you can quickly do a water change. Good luck with the upgrade!!!
