Moving a mile and a half away.

would it be horrible to take my rocks with my corals out is my apartment aquarium and drive to the new house and place them in the new aquarium?

Parms Match.

should be less than 15 min total out of water.

I have buckets but not enough to get to top and then wouldn’t be able to close it.
Also I have 3 tall rock strictures in a 60 cube. So unless I get a bucket the size of my tank the structures not in the bucket would be out of water from the water in the bucket!

planning on moving it today.

Is there sand how do you plan on that part if any

Just put a storage tote in the trunk, fill halfway with water using buckets, and carry the rocks to your trunk, and put them in for the drive. Otherwise, worst case they will be ok out of water for the drive

Hey @brandon429 I have a pretty minimal sand bed in my cube and a substantial sand bed in my 180. I’m just gonna scoop my sand out and dust it across the new sand.

anything wrong with that?

I do have salt mixing and plenty of RODI at new house in my mixing station.

any issues with corals being out of water for 10-15??

I cannot think of any coral that would die for 15 mins, mine will do 45 if asked :) kudos for bucking the bucket and water trend lol. Move em with pics pls and in recurring themes for safe transfers don’t hit them with full lighting after move, it’s a new ramp up like you got new LEDs to keep them from bleaching.

Small sandbed waste probably isn’t a big deal as described. We like to input only totally clean sand, since daily running in the new tank just begins waste accumulation cycle again, starting clean is no harm too. If you use any degree of live rock it will handle all the current bioload even if you ripped out all the sand, so what you do with a little sand won’t matter if you’re starting pretty clean at the new place.

The stories you hear on this kind of thing going bad usually don't have anything to do with everything going right. You should be fine if everything goes right.

The stories are more along the lines of..."it was only a 15 min move, but then my tire blew and my wife had the other car picking up supplies across town, and it was sudden cold/hot spell, and the electricity wasn't turned on when we arrived..." and so on.

Think about what can go wrong, take steps to make sure it's covered and minimize your risk. A bit of a planning is worth the effort when you're talking $Ks of dollars in livestock.

Because if it doesn't go well, I guarantee it'll either be the one thing you didn't think of, or the one thing you thought of and said...naw...that won't happen.

I have watched your vids several times! Your a legend!! Lol

@Quietman you may have put Murphy’s law all on top of me.

power is out at new house this morning where new 180 is. No biggie, I’ll just wait till tomorrow for temp to come back up. Get home and moving some stuff and I notice a puddle of water at the feet of the 60 cube.

the freaking thing sprung a leak. It is constantly dripping from the front right corner. I wipe the water away and it comes right back.

going to take the heater from the 60 and add it to the others on the 180.

Ugh...that sucks. I knew I should've sacrificied a chicken or something after I posted that. Sorry man.

Not best pics, but also not one single loss. Not even the two idiot fish who chose to ride in the rocks without water!

everything is open and pretty.

still need to get everything situated and sand moved etc, but I have a whole house to move....

Jason it’s looking sharp for sure can’t wait to see how it fares the next few days, you’ve moved it perfectly it seems- zero cloud on the new tank! Let’s track it a couple days I’ll link your work for others to copy

I have to say the trigger platinum sump with the roller fleece is amazing. I thought it was just because the tank was new, but I move the sand mostly to one side of the tank in preparation for the move.

it caused such a cloud storm I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it. All cleared up after an hour!!I am impressed. Money well spent.

water is crystal clear! I am running the skimmer and carbon as well.
