Howdy,

I am picking up a used Red sea reefer 425 in the coming days and just trying to gauge what I will need in terms of muscle. I read online the glass itself weighs ~ 170 pounds which is easily manageable by my father and myself. I am curious to know if it should be palletized or what?

No need to stack on a pallet. If you and your father are capable of lifting 170 lbs you should be good to go. Maybe a rubber or foam mat to put it on during transport and a couple moving blankets and straps.

This is great to hear okay! Yes 170 is in our wheelhouse for sure. Was worried about the mid span.

Where abouts in NJ ?

I’m up in Sussex county. Not much going on up here. I love Sea Level aquarium store and I am obsessed with SBB Corals! What are your favorite fish spots?

I'm in union county. I like reefco (expensive) but such a cool shop. Fish I like aquatic obsessions. I've never been to either of those two.

That’s hilarious I’ve never been to either of the stores you mentioned…lol
Sea level is in pine brook and it’s a great shop. SBB Corals is an online vendor out of Jersey City that has some super high end stuff for amazing deals! Check my YouTube channel for videos of SBB. Link in my signature

I work in JC haha - do they have the ability to visit ?

I paid 2 young men to move my 425 XL. Think about your dads back!

It’s not just the 170 lbs that you need to take into account. Stairs, tight spots, doorways, etc. make the move challenging. Also my movers used those large suction cups to give them a firm hold of the aquarium.

Good luck!

I pay no one !! I am trying to find a 3rd set of hands as the spot is a little hairy.

My brother looked like he was struggling to help me get my 120 on the stand. And he works out. I’m just huge…

Smart move on the extra set of hands.

Also my guys used old 1 inch hard foam insulation boards on all sides to protect the aquarium while in the van (No pallet).

I was going to do something similar for protection. Either moving blankets or foam as you mentioned.
