Hello all,

I am moving a RSM C250 rimless aquarium to a new stand. I am concerned about the move. I plan on draining as much water as possible from the aquarium and then moving it to the new stand located just a few feet away. Will leaving the substrate (roughly 50lbs sand) cause a lot of strain on the bottom glass? There will be two people moving it, one on each side. Thanks for any suggestions!

What you want to do is get a table lift at Home Depot they rent them. You can slide the tank off the stand and move it slowly back and then put in back on the new stand.

I will be sliding the tank right off onto saw horses. I am wondering if it can hold up to the sliding with the sand in it.

Another question...

I will be draining the water down to almost nothing. I will try to not disturb the sandbed as much as I can. Will this cause issues with ammonia spike?

I wouldn’t trust saw horses.
I used the lift tables for years as a maintenance man. Holding up a 1500 lbs and more worth of equipment.
they are more stable and are easier for movement of heavy equipment. With saw horses you are relying on humans to die the lifting work and moving and holding up of the aquarium.
once on a lift table you can move the aquarium out of the way easily and not have to man handle the aquarium again if you have to move the tank again during removing the stand and installing the new stand

I agree with you. However, I am moving the aquarium a few feet to the left and then a few feet back. A table lift would make it more cumbersome. With the tank empty and sand bed it should be around 250lbs.

You can do what ever you want to do.

You ask for options and I was just sharing how I have moving this type of aquariums in the past. Have helped a bunch of club members move tanks and it’s not a fun task.
safety first is the beat route.

I appreciate your help! Im just saying its not possible to get a table lift in this tight spaced apartment.

Run up to Home Depot and look at their rental lifts they are not any bigger than an
Appliance dolly.

I can move an empty Red Sea reefer 250 pretty easily. I don’t see you having any problems with another person helping. Sawhorses should be fine, but I wouldn’t trust the plastic sawhorses often sold at home improvement centers.
