im moving in a week into a new house a have a 10 gallon nano reef tank and I would like to know what is the best process to moving. Also in the process I would like to add new sand and clean the tank, would this break the cycle if so how can I clean my tank without disrupting the cycle.

First off what is the distance you will be moving? Second if you are going to be replacing the sand keep 2 cupfulls or so to help reseed your new batch of sand.

Personally I would start over. Unless you had someone to hold your livestock to be sure you’re good to go.
I’ve tried a couple of times and something always seems to happen.
Might be a good time to upsize? Lol
Time I was most successful I went from 75 to 120. Not exactly sure why but just didn’t have all the problems I did when just moving.
Either way best of luck! Keep us posted

On a 10 gallon I would keep half of your water. Thoroughly rinse rock and coral with left over water and new water. Keep all bio filtration in water with the corals and rock. Try not to disturb sand bed at all during process. If you are putting new sand with set up I would keep a cup or so. I would personally bleach the tank quickly then prime then a vinegar wipe down(not necessary). Would you consider a bare bottom? It would make things easier. Set up tank add bacteria, test everyday for first week for ammonia and keep prime handy. Your tank will go through a mini cycle. I did this for my office tank. I had a small cycle on day 3. Got some diatoms day 4. Everything back to desirable levels day 5. I had a main display at house. I housed my SPS at home but my zoas and other encrusting things on rock made it. They were not happy for a few days though

This should be done in 1-2 days if not then I would sell your live stock and restart. Oh and run an airstone in with corals/fish during transport and down time obviously

If you have a four hour or less drive. Keep 3 gallons in the tank and any rock the will be covered in water. Put all rock in coolers with tank water. Fish in a cooler of tank water. Get it to the new house and set up immediately. No problem. Done it with a fifty gallon.
